Leave them in the dark

I really don't know what the hell's going on. Why does everything have to be done in the dark? Why does the public have to be left out of everything?
President Mubarak decides, or announces, suddenly that there is going to be a constitutional amendment. No warning, no preparation, nothing. Why? Wby don't you tell us what you are thinking? This is no minor decision.
Rumours abound that the heads of the major Egyptian newspaper establishments are going to be replaced. Ok, that's nice, because some of them have been in their positions for more than 25 years. Why not tell us? Why not let everyone know official that there is going to be a change? These are state owned newspapers and so that government decides what happens there. Why do people have to live in the dark. Is this not their country? What good can come from causing confusion within the press?
Well, now that i think about it, a confused press might focus on things other than politics.
Is this someone's private property and we are just tenants living here? It certainly seems so.
When the government decided to reduce tariffs on cars last year (a MAJOR issue with most Egyptian) there was absolutely no warning, officials were even denying days before the annoucement that there would be any reductions. People who had bought cars the pervious day saw their prices fall sharply in mere hours.
What the hell is this?
If the government thinks we are mature enough to elect our own president, then aren't we mature enough to know about such important changes before they happen.
Maybe if we leave the people in the dark then they won't think to much. Everyone knows what happens when the people think.

If the people ever started to think they would be able to not only overthrow a dictatorial government, but they could also institute a middle class, and then where would the wealthy be? There certainly wouldn't be as many poor to push around, would there?
Don't worry, the US is getting there...and not slowly, I might add.
