The annual season of hypocrisy
The Islamic month of Ramadan has just begun amd the usual hypocrisy has begun.
One has to only see what Christmas has become in the Europe and the US to understand what Ramadan has become in Islamic countries.
I went to a supermarket a couple of days before Ramadan and it could have been a zoo for all the insanity that i saw there. People were running around, stuff thrown on the floor, shelves were half empty and people were crowding at the cashier in a way i rarely see. What the hell is wrong with everyone? Is this what the month is about? Is this what God supposedly wanted when he asked people to fast from dawn to dusk? Instead of self restraint, people go insane, i mean totally crazy, with food. When i go to gatherings or even restaurants, the amount of food that is wasted is just mind boggling.
I am not even going to talk about the religious hypocrisy that goes on, with most bars closing and alcohol, for example, becoming virtually (not totally, but nearly) unavailable. If i drink i should be able to do that year round. What the hell's the point? One month of piousness is going to get me into heaven?
People think that a month of hypocrisy will score some extra point with their God. Ok, go ahead if that makes you happy.
I was driving by a large mosque near my house on the first day of Ramadan, at the time when evening prayers and special Ramadan prayers were ending and was honestly scared, i really was. It felt like i was in Afghanistan, in some sort of Taliban stronghold.
Anyway, i'll get into that later, it was a truly frightening experience.
